Pedestrian struck on Vernon crosswalk in critical condition
VERNON – A pedestrian is in critical condition after being hit by a car while using a Vernon crosswalk Saturday morning.
The 53-year-old Vernon woman was walking in the crosswalk at Tronson Road and Okanagan Landing Road just after 7 a.m., Saturday, July 18, when she was hit by a car, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.
She suffered serious head trauma and internal injuries and was rushed to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, and then to Kelowna General for treatment. She remained in critical condition as of Monday morning, July 20.
Police found a black Jeep Liberty across the road and say it also collided with a hydro pole, shearing it off its base, knocking out the power to about 4,500 homes and businesses in the area.
“Indications are the vehicle was being driven westbound on Okanagan Landing Road when it struck the woman in the marked crosswalk,” Molendyk says.
The driver, 92-year-old man from Vernon, was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with minor injuries. He’s believed to hold a valid driver’s license. Police are investigating what led to the accident and an RCMP traffic analyst examined the scene. B.C. Hydro was called in to replace the damaged hydro pole.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call the detachment at 250-545-7171 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Maureen Barnes and putting a coin in a meter is not the same as driving Ms Barnes.
That’s all fine and dandy, I’m saying who’s running the licencing and are they getting tested. I think everyone after the age of 70 should have yearly exams and at 80 monthy exams.
valid in what country and who looks after licencing in BC, completely scary that their are people over 80 driving.
