Accused in Penticton shooting granted bail

PENTICTON – The man accused in a shooting incident near Penticton’s northeast boundary was released on bail today, July 17.

Matthew James Cameron, accused of one count of attempted murder in a shooting incident that took place Monday night, July 13, on Lindsay Road in Penticton, was delivered to court but did not make an appearance after bail conditions were reached between Crown and defence counsels.

Crown Prosecutor John Swanson says Cameron was released on a $25,000 bond secured by two individuals.

Cameron has a number of conditions to meet, including residing with his parents, a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, no weapons or illicit drugs possession and no contact with the complainant or a named Crown witness.

Thirty-one year old Cameron is alleged to have shot an acquaintance as a result of an escalating conflict between the two. A second person was also injured in the shooting.

Cameron next appears in court  on July 29.
