Top Penticton city hall wage earners grab 35 per cent of payroll

PENTICTON – Working for the City of Penticton continues to be one of the more lucrative occupations in the South Okanagan.

The City released its Statement of Financial Information this week, listing 69 staffers who made more than $75,000 working for the city last year. Seventeen of those broke the six figure level, earning more than $100,000.

Former city manager Annette Antoniak topped last year’s list at $171,954 in salary and $3,226 in expenses for a total of $175,179.

Director of operations Mitch Moroziuk took home $139,296 in pay and $3,116 in expenses for a total of $142,412.

Third on the list was interim city manager Chuck Loewen, who made $131,649 along with expenses of $1,891 for a total of $133,540.

Those making more than $75,000 took home 35 per cent of the city payroll last year, which totalled $18,841,834.

Among the city councillors, newly elected mayor and former councillor Andrew Jakubeit was paid $22,320 along with $3,007 in expenses for a total of $25,980.

Former mayor Garry Litke made $56,677 along with $6,315 in expenses for a total of $64,696. Highest paid councillor was re-elected Coun. Helena Konanaz, who took home $20,053 along with $2,214 in expenses, totalling $22,755. Mayor and council cost the city $195,268 in remuneration and expenses in 2014.

There was one severance agreement representing six months worth of compensation, based on salary, made in 2014.

The city’s biggest bills were paid to Fortis at $28,006,972, the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen at $10,236,696 and the Minister of Finance at $8,237,142.

The top three organizations receiving grant funding from the city included the Penticton Library at $1,017,224, Challenge Penticton at $109,950, and Penticton Art Gallery Society at $95,000.

I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
