Hot wheels and slick chrome at the Peachland car show

Peachland's lakefront was glistening this afternoon with the sun bouncing off the freshly polished enamel of over 550 collector cars.

Antiques and their modern counterparts lined both sides of Beach Avenue for the World of Wheels Show and Shine car show today, giving visitors of all ages plenty of opportunity to oggle some of the most iconic American and European automobiles.

Models of Ford, Chrysler, Cadillac, Dodge and Buick spanning the decades gave crowds a travel through time, proving cars are as much about lifestyle, culture and memory as they are about motorized transport.

Collector Harry Ashbrook was sitting comfortably in his camping chair watching passersby size-up his 1960's Ford Thunderbird.

"I saved her from a crusher," Ashbrook says, "She was sitting on top of a crushing pile."

Shining in a crisp yellow paint, Ashbrook's fully restored Thunderbird looks too pristine for a drive down the highway, let alone a trip to the scrap yard.

When asked what he thinks of today's energy efficient smart cars, Ashbrook shakes his head.

"You won't get me in one of those," he says. "You need one for each foot."
