Motorcyclist succumbs to injuries following Oliver crash
PENTICTON – A motorcyclist has died after injuries suffered in an accident near Oliver yesterday, June 9.
Cpl. Shana McLeod of South Okanagan Traffic Services in Keremeos says the Oliver RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle motorcycle accident in the 7600-block of Highway 97 on June 9 at approximately 3 p.m.
A witness at the scene told police the motorcyclist was trying to avoid a deer, veered off the road and struck a utility pole.
The 64-year-old man was conscious and was treated at the scene by B.C. Ambulance. He was then transported to South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver for further examination, but succumbed to his injuries later in the evening.
Speed and alcohol are not considered to be factors in the accident.
The B.C. Coroners Service and South Okanagan Traffic Services continue to investigate the matter.
Members of the RCMP are concerned about the increasing number of motorcycle fatalities in the South Okanagan and have recently noted a steadily increasing trend of deaths on local highways over the past three years.
