TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s official news agency is reporting that an explosion in a factory producing foam for upholstery has killed one worker and injured five others.
The Tuesday report says the explosion took place in the steam tank of the factory in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz. It says the injured workers were taken to hospitals, one of them in a critical condition.
It says the cause of the explosion, which also damaged a nearby furniture factory, remains under investigation.
Iran has experienced several explosions and fires at industrial and commercial sites in recent months. Authorities have blamed them on poor health and safety measures.
On Saturday, a gas pipeline explosion in southern Iran killed one person and injured three others.
