ATLANTA – A Georgia sheriff says a deputy has shot and killed a former jailer.
Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix tells WSB-TV that deputies went to a residence Wednesday night where a man acting suicidal threatened a deputy with a gun. Dix says the man was a county detention officer years ago, before working with the county correctional institution.
Dix says several people inside the house during the shooting were not harmed and are now with family.
Deputies had gone to the rear of the home when the man came out of a door. Dix said the man pointed his gun at the deputy and the deputy fired.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called after Dix asked for a probe.
Authorities did not release names of the deputy or slain man.
