Name of driver killed by trooper on interstate is released
STRINESTOWN, Pa. – Authorities have released the name of a driver who was fatally shot by a state trooper on a Pennsylvania interstate after he dragged the trooper during a traffic stop.
The York County coroner said 26-year-old Rasheem Singletary, of Petersburg, Virginia, was the motorist shot on Interstate 83 in York County on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Singletary started to flee during a traffic stop. They say the trooper was on the driver’s side of the vehicle and first tried to use a stun gun but opened fire after he was dragged about three-tenths of a mile toward a concrete median.
Coroner Pam Gay said Singletary died of multiple gunshot wounds. State police will investigate and will turn over their findings to the county district attorney.
