Class on how to spot forest pest held at Acadia

BAR HARBOR, Maine – The National Park Service and Maine officials are holding an event at Acadia National Park to help people learn to look for an invasive forest pest that has been found in the state.

The park service and Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry are hosting the workshop on March 7 from 8:30 a.m. until mid-afternoon. The borer was found in Maine last year, when ash trees were found to be infected in Aroostook and York counties at opposite ends of the state.

The service says the documentation of the borer means it has become “even more important to track its movement and prevent its spread” here.

The event will take place in a heated garage at park headquarters, which is located at 20 McFarland Hill Drive in Bar Harbor.
