NOGALES, Ariz. – U.S. and Mexican authorities have discovered a tunnel between Nogales in the Mexican state of Sonora and Nogales, Arizona.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/2bXynWk ) that the 20-by-20-inch opening was discovered Aug. 26 in a Mexican cemetery. The five-foot deep tunnel extended 46 feet into the United States.
U.S. Border Patrol agents say they found digging tools, power cords, a gas-powered generator and a swamp cooler inside the unfinished tunnel.
The tunnel was discovered in the drainage system beneath the border near the DeConcini Point of Entry in downtown Nogales.
