Motorists in New Jersey, nation see lower gas prices

TRENTON, N.J. – Motorists in New Jersey and around the nation continue to see lower prices at the pump as the summer driving season accelerates before the July 4 holiday.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey on Friday was $2.90, down four cents from last week. Motorists were paying $2.32 for gas in New Jersey at this time last year.

The national average gas price Friday was $2.86 a gallon, also down four cents from last week but also much higher than the national average a year ago, when motorists were paying $2.28.

Analysts say crude oil supplies are lower this week according to the Energy Information Administration, but gasoline supplies are up nationally and on the East Coast.
