Corsican group warns against Islamist extremists

PARIS – The hardline branch of the Corsican separatist movement FLNC is warning any Islamic extremists on the French Mediterranean island that it will respond “without hesitation” to any attacks in Corsica.

A statement received by Corse-Matin newspaper also had a message for Muslims in Corsica and the French state.

The FLNC-October 22 branch counselled Muslims of Corsica in its statement released Thursday to stand against radicalization and identify young people at risk.

The group put out a call to “conquer IS,” the Islamic State group that claimed responsibility for a truck attack in Nice that killed 84 and Tuesday’s church attack in Normandy in which the priest was killed.

It advised France to end military interventions so conflicts don’t “boomerang on its soil.”
