SILVER SPRING, Md. – Authorities have identified two children killed in an explosion and fire at a Maryland apartment complex.
The Montgomery County police department said in a news release Tuesday that 8-year-old Deibi “David” Samir Lainez Morales and 3-year-old Fernando Josue Hernandez Orellana were among seven people killed in the Aug. 10 fire.
Authorities identified three other victims last week and are working to identify two more.
The explosion at the Flower Branch apartments in Silver Spring shook homes more than a mile away. Some residents reported smelling natural gas before the explosion; officials also had been called to the building July 25 by residents who reported smelling gas.
Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said last week that a buildup of natural gas caused the explosion.
