College reschedules finals after bogus campus threat

EASTON, Pa. – An eastern Pennsylvania college is rescheduling some finals after a bogus online threat led to room-by-room searches, disrupting students studying for exams.

Lafayette College officials say the threat was found to be not credible.

Someone claiming to be a student with loyalty to the Islamic State group threatened an attack over the weekend with “pipe bombs, pressure cookers and nail bombs,” saying his faith had been ridiculed.

Lafayette says it worked with police and the FBI to determine the threat’s legitimacy and “an extensive room-by-room search” of the Easton campus turned up “no malicious or hazardous materials.”

However, due to “the emotional and practical impact of the event” the school will give students extra time to study.

The school announced on its website that all finals scheduled for Monday will be shifted to Sunday.
