{"id":923,"date":"2019-06-17T09:19:58","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T16:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infotel-staging.go-vip.net\/blog\/2019\/06\/14\/new-cafe-ambience-open-in-downtown-kelowna\/"},"modified":"2019-06-14T13:03:56","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T20:03:56","slug":"new-caf-ambience-open-in-downtown-kelowna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/923\/new-caf-ambience-open-in-downtown-kelowna\/","title":{"rendered":"New caf\u00e9 Ambience open in downtown Kelowna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> KELOWNA &#8211; A new locally-owned caf&eacute; just opened up in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Kelowna.<\/p>\n<p> Ambience has found its home in the two-storey Old Post Office built in 1908 at 274 Bernard Avenue.<\/p>\n<p> Run by mother-son duo Linda and Sam Smith, Ambience is so named because, as Sam explains, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s a mix of everything.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <!-- start image2 --><\/p>\n<figure data-type=\"media\" data-slug=\"MediaItemID62991-6578.JPG\" data-filename=\"MediaItemID62991-6578.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/MediaItemID62991-6578.JPG\" alt=\"|\" title=\"|\"><figcaption>Street view of Ambience | Photographer: Brie Welton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!-- end image2 --><\/p>\n<p> Sam has lived in the apartment above the space for the past fifteen years.<\/p>\n<p> Linda has owned The Water Garden Boutique on Ellis for the past 19 years, and brought over some home decor items, jewelry and clothing to sell in Ambience.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;I&#39;ve been in the service industry forever,&quot; Linda said. &quot;I&#39;m no barista but I love my coffee and I know how to make a good coffee.&quot;<\/p>\n<p> The Smiths are currently working on a food menu, trying each item themselves in order to get everything just right.<\/p>\n<p> &quot;We&#39;re going to do charcuterie, some local stuff,&quot; Linda said, &quot;tacos, there&#39;s going to be grilled pita, spinach pie.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> They will be submitting the finished menu in order to obtain a liquor license for Ambience as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> &quot;We have no idea what we&#39;re doing, but we want to do a really good job,&rdquo; Sam jokes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> <!-- start image3 --><\/p>\n<figure data-type=\"media\" data-slug=\"MediaItemID62991-5281.JPG\" data-filename=\"MediaItemID62991-5281.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/MediaItemID62991-5281.JPG\" alt=\"|\" title=\"|\"><figcaption>Photographer: Brie Welton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!-- end image3 --><\/p>\n<p> Before the Smiths took over, the space was occupied by Doja, another coffee shop owned by a cannabis company. They sold their brand to Toronto company Canopy, who had no use for a coffee shop.<\/p>\n<p> &quot;They left everything as is, so we&#39;ve just taken that and run with it,&quot; said Linda, referring to the 25 thousand dollar cappuccino machine and the rest of the expensive equipment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> The back section of the cafe is full of used books for purchasing and perusing, inherited by Sam from High Browse Books when they shut their doors.<\/p>\n<p> It&rsquo;s a spacious location with plenty of tables and seating, lots of plants and a huge glass door that rolls up and opens the entire front of the shop right onto the patio. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 100%\" \/>\n<p> <span style=\"font-family:times new roman,times,serif;\">We welcome your comments and opinions on our stories but play nice.
