{"id":8377,"date":"2026-03-18T17:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/?p=7581250"},"modified":"2026-03-18T17:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T00:00:12","slug":"most-kamloopsians-support-booze-in-public-park-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8377\/most-kamloopsians-support-booze-in-public-park-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"Most Kamloopsians support booze in public park: survey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Kamloops pilot project to allow alcohol in a public park will resume for a second summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of putting a ban on liquor at Riverside Park, the city gave the OK for park-goers to drink in designated areas last year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City staff were concerned members of the community were &#8220;polarized&#8221; on the idea, but <a href=\"https:\/\/kamloops.civicweb.net\/document\/214403\/MEM_Responsible%20Liquor%20Consumption%20Pilot%20Project_M.pdf?handle=27B929A2839547F9AA378E31DDEF98DB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a survey found the majority were in favour.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearly 270 people responded to a city survey and almost two-thirds said they were in favour of allowing alcohol in the park, which hosts Music in the Park every summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those opposed said they were concerned about family safety and the &#8220;normalization&#8221; of substance use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The results were presented to city council last week and although some shared their opinions, it was already planned to start again on May 15 without a council vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While Coun. Nancy Bepple said she was not in favour of the pilot project, others said they want to see it continue on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coun.
