{"id":8245,"date":"2025-11-03T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/?p=7407877"},"modified":"2025-11-03T12:01:54","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T20:01:54","slug":"in-photos-bountiful-grape-crop-bursts-with-colour-in-okanagan-kamloops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8245\/in-photos-bountiful-grape-crop-bursts-with-colour-in-okanagan-kamloops\/","title":{"rendered":"iN PHOTOS: Bountiful grape crop bursts with colour in Okanagan, Kamloops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Grape growers in the Okanagan and Thompson Valleys just finished harvesting bountiful healthy crops of numerous varietals in shades of white, green, blue and deep purple. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to ideal growing conditions, the fruit ripened early, <a href=\"https:\/\/bcwinetrends.com\/2025\/10\/01\/early-bc-2025-harvest-notes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with several growers reporting plump grapes<\/a> with strong lively flavours, excellent colour development and vibrant hues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Okanagan Valley is a powerhouse for growing wine grapes in BC and is the largest grape-growing region in the province where more than 60 varietals grown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/grapes-1.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7407885\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pinot Noir grapes at Paddock Vineyard on the Naramata Bench are used for 1 Mill Road Winery wines. SUBMITTED\/1 Mill Road Winery<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Okanagan valley stretches north to south over 250 kilometres and accounts for 86% of the province\u2019s vineyard acreage which translates to 10,920 acres planted, <a href=\"https:\/\/winebc.com\/wine-regions\/okanagan-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to WineBC.com.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With roughly 93 acres of vineyards planted, the Thompson Valley is one of BC\u2019s newer wine-producing areas. Growers produce both red and white wine varietals that do well with the warm days and cool nights in the region, <a href=\"https:\/\/bcvqa.ca\/geo_indication\/thompson-valley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the British Columbia Wine Authority.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/561530221_1336546068481113_839244980277536610_n.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7407893\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This Syrah grew at Airport Vineyard in West Osoyoos. SUBMITTED\/Blasted Church Vineyard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks ago, the vineyard manager at Monte Creek winery near Kamloops, Dominik Hensler, wrapped up harvesting the best quality and quantity of grapes he\u2019s seen in 15 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Thompson Valley really shone this year,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8239\/grape-growers-harvest-bumper-crop-in-okanagan-and-kamloops\/\">he said in a previous interview with iNFOnews.ca<\/a>. \u201cThere was a bit of a longer season where we could let things ripen a bit longer and get just a bit more flavour and physical fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will take time for many growers to fully recover <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/1362\/okanagan-grape-harvest-wiped-out-for-2024\/\">from a 2024 cold event that destroyed vines,<\/a> the high yields and healthy, gorgeous fruit is a promising sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/559934532_18529562479003168_8236537546033402266_n.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7407895\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Riesling grapes grow at Tantalus Vineyards in Kelowna.
