{"id":716,"date":"2020-01-16T09:01:18","date_gmt":"2020-01-16T17:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infotel-staging.go-vip.net\/blog\/2020\/01\/17\/another-pub-proposed-for-kelownas-growing-north-end-brewery-district\/"},"modified":"2020-01-16T17:01:18","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T01:01:18","slug":"another-pub-proposed-for-kelownas-growing-north-end-brewery-district","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/716\/another-pub-proposed-for-kelownas-growing-north-end-brewery-district\/","title":{"rendered":"Another pub proposed for Kelowna\u2019s growing North End brewery district"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Now that the Rustic Reel craft brewery is up and running in Kelowna, the owner of that building wants to redevelop a nearby old warehouse, possibly with a pub offering more than 100 seats.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/infotel.ca\/inwine\/great-brewing-minds-think-alike-in-kelownas-north-end-brewery-district\/it68772\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rustic Reel is the most recent brew pub to open in what&#39;s becoming a brewery district in the industrial North End of downtown<\/a>&nbsp;Kelowna.<\/p>\n<p> Located on 760 Vaughan Ave., the property is about 3.5 acres and has three buildings.<\/p>\n<p> The first building, which was a garage for a trucking company, was renovated and leased to Susi Foerg who created the Rustic Reel brewery that opened last summer.<\/p>\n<p> The building owner wants to amend the existing zone so he can renovate the warehouse and add in other uses.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;Plans for the building are still being formalized, and the applicant is pursuing partnerships with local entrepreneurs to refine this project further,&rdquo; states a report going to Kelowna city council on Monday, Jan. 20. &ldquo;The intention is to create a space that offers food and liquor service and entertainment uses such as movie screenings and potentially live music.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> The applicant, listed as Alec Warrender, manager of development for Faction Projects Inc., also wants to allow things like high technology research and production design, small retail stores, &ldquo;spectator entertainment establishments&rdquo; and more.<\/p>\n<p> Those changes would apply to the whole site, not just the former warehouse building.<\/p>\n<p> If approved, the next phase of development will be to renovate the warehouse, which dates back to the 1950s.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;The most valuable and impressive part of the building is the exposed interior wooden roof structure that truly makes it special and worthy of rehabilitation,&rdquo; Warrender wrote in a letter accompanying the application, noting he is renovating historic buildings rather than tearing them down.<\/p>\n<p> A further phase of development will include a new building with commercial and light industrial uses.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 100%\" \/>\n<p> <span style=\"font-family: &quot;times new roman&quot;, times, serif;\">To contact a reporter for this story, <\/span><a href=\"mailto:rmunro@infonews.ca\" style=\"font-family: &quot;times new roman&quot;, times, serif;\">email Rob Munro<\/a><span style=\"font-family: &quot;times new roman&quot;, times, serif;\">&nbsp;or call 250-808-0143 or <\/span><a href=\"mailto:news@infonews.ca\" style=\"font-family: &quot;times new roman&quot;, times, serif;\">email the editor<\/a><span style=\"font-family: &quot;times new roman&quot;, times, serif;\">.
