Calona Wines and Sandhill Winery on Richter Street in Kelowna’s north end will be renovated to make room for Gretzky Wines' higher profile.<\/p>\n

The hockey legend owns Gretzky Estates in Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario that features wines made from Okanagan and Niagara grapes along with “Innovative Canadian whiskeys, spirits and beer,” according to its website.<\/a> Gretzky has been operating an outlet in Kelowna in conjunction with Sandhill Winery since last year.<\/p>\n

An application was recently filed with Kelowna City Hall to renovate the existing building at 1125 Richter St. with Calona Wines in the north end of the building, Sandhill Winery in the middle with Gretzky Wines in the south part facing Vaughn Avenue.<\/p>\n

Plans call for a new rooftop outdoor patio seating area and kitchen for Gretzky Wines along with a large sign bearing Gretzky’s legendary number 99.<\/p>\n

The middle of the building on Richter Street will be renovated to provide a new entrance and signage for Sandhill Wineries.<\/p>\n

There is no mention in the report to council of whether any of Gretzky’s wines will be produced on-site.<\/p>\n
