{"id":31,"date":"2022-12-23T23:08:51","date_gmt":"2022-12-24T07:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infotel-staging.go-vip.net\/blog\/2022\/12\/24\/in-traffic-british-columbians-are-getting-winter-storms-for-christmas\/"},"modified":"2022-12-24T07:08:51","modified_gmt":"2022-12-24T15:08:51","slug":"in-traffic-british-columbians-are-getting-winter-storms-for-christmas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inwheels\/news\/31\/in-traffic-british-columbians-are-getting-winter-storms-for-christmas\/","title":{"rendered":"iN TRAFFIC: British Columbians are getting winter storms for Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Winter storm warnings still in effect for much of Southern B.C. and travel is not recommended on a 50-kilometre stretch of the TransCan.<\/p>\n<p> One <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/warnings\/index_e.html?prov=bc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">storm warning<\/a> is in effect for the <strong>Coquihalla<\/strong> between Hope and Merritt, and on <strong>Highway 3<\/strong> from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass &ndash; where up to 30 centimetres of snow can be expected for the coastal passes this morning thru tonight. Other warnings apply to the North Okanagan, Shuswap, Similkameen and East Columbia &ndash; where up to 15 cm can be expected over the course of the day.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;The precipitation will ease by midnight tonight before another system arrives early Sunday,&rdquo; according to Environment Canada. &ldquo;This second system will give a mix of snow, rain, and risk of freezing rain. This will continue to make travel challenging on Christmas day.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/drivebc.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DriveB.C.<\/a> says travelling on <strong>Highway 1 <\/strong>between Spences Bridge and Jackass Mountain is not recommended unless essential.<\/p>\n<p> &ldquo;Heavy snow and freezing rain developing through the region,&rdquo; according to the travel advisory.<\/p>\n<p> DriveB.C. is also reporting <strong>Highway 5<\/strong> has compact snow between the Great Bear Snowshed and Kamloops; H<strong>ighway 3 <\/strong>has slippery sections between Princeton and the Curzon Junction; and <strong>Highways 97C<\/strong> and <strong>97D<\/strong> have compact snow throughout.<\/p>\n<p> Today&#39;s weather is going to seem warm compared to the bitterly-cold temperatures earlier in the week. Temperatures in <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-45_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kamloops<\/a> will be warming from -9 Celsius to -5 C throughout the day. <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/forecast\/hourly\/bc-27_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vernon<\/a>&nbsp;will rise from -11 C to -7, <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-48_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kelowna<\/a> will warm from -10 C to -6 C, and <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/forecast\/hourly\/bc-84_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Penticton<\/a> will go from -8 C to -4 C. There will be periods of snow all day in the region, and people in the South Okanagan can expect ice pellets to be mixed in with their flurries beginning at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p> At the ski hills, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigwhite.com\/mountain-conditions\/daily-snow-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big White Mountain Resort<\/a> is reporting 5 cm of new snow and 33 cm over the past week. There has been 4 cm at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunpeaksresort.com\/ski-ride\/weather-conditions-cams\/weather-snow-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sun Peaks Ski Resort<\/a> over the two days and 6 cm in the past week;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.snow-forecast.com\/resorts\/Silver-Star\/snow-report#:~:text=The%20SilverStar%20snow%20report%20is,20%20cm)%20past%207%20days.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SilverStar Mountain Resort<\/a> last got 8 cm on Dec. 20 and is expecting another 8 cm today; and <a href=\"https:\/\/apexresort.com\/the-mountain\/snow-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apex Mountain Resort<\/a> is reporting 10 cm of snow in the past 24 hours and 30 cm since last week.<\/p>\n<p> &nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr style=\"width: 100%\" \/>\n<p> <span style=\"font-family:times new roman,times,serif;\">To contact a reporter for this story, <a href=\"mailto:dwalton@infonews.ca\">email Dan Walton<\/a>&nbsp;or call 250-488-3065 or <a href=\"mailto:news@infonews.ca\">email the editor<\/a>.
