{"id":7701,"date":"2025-11-23T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/?p=7435903"},"modified":"2025-11-23T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T14:00:00","slug":"century-old-kamloops-home-recognized-for-its-rich-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.infonews.ca\/inhome\/news\/7701\/century-old-kamloops-home-recognized-for-its-rich-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Century-old Kamloops home recognized for its rich history"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A quaint little house in Kamloops now has a centenary heritage plaque in front of in recognition of its long, rich history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known both as the Arduini House and The Resort, the house at 730 Nicola Street was built in 1911 by Ivo and Regina Arduini, Italian immigrants who settled in Kamloops to raise their family and run a shoe business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see the heritage plaque finally installed, it feels like a big milestone,\u201d said Mayumi Bisson who bought the house earlier this year. \u201cWhen I moved in, I was renovating the attic space and found paperwork with the Arduini\u2019s name on it and have become curious to learn more about the family history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ivo and Regina were born and raised in Italy. They were married in 1905 and immigrated to Kamloops where they had five children, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kelownaitalianclub.com\/kelownas-first-families\/nellie-arduini-and-jim-campbell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to The Kelowna Canadian Italian Club. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ivo was a shoemaker and opened Arduini\u2019s Shoe Store that was later taken over by his grandson and operated in Kamloops for 100 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I was renovating the basement suite I found yellow old newspapers,\u201d Bisson said. \u201cA descendant of the family told me a member of the family ran a newspaper company at one time.
