A popular Okanagan mini-golf course has closed and could become the site of 500 residential units.<\/p>\n
Located on Westbank First Nation land, 19 Greens did not open as usual for the 2022 season as there is an offer on the table to purchase the land.<\/p>\n
The company that owns the site, the RMD Group, confirmed to iNFOnews.ca today, June 6, there is an outstanding offer to purchase the land, but wouldn't reveal the price.<\/p>\n
Westbank First Nation spokesperson Kristy Jean said a rezoning application for the site has been submitted and is currently in the public consultation phase.<\/p>\n
She said if council approves the rezoning it would allow for up to 500 residential units. The public consultation process has been extended.<\/p>\n
"Studies have been conducted including traffic and environmental impacts, geotechnical and archaeological reviews as well as required infrastructure upgrades," Jean said in an emailed statement. "Should the development proceed they will be required to adhere to the results of those studies and Westbank First Nation law."<\/p>\n
RMD Group administrator Nicky Hazel couldn't discuss the proposal as the deal had not been finalized.<\/p>\n
Hazel said while 19 Green will not be opening this year, there was still potential for next season "depending on whether the agreement goes through."<\/p>\n
