There are a myriad of programs and rebates through various government and private agencies to help make homes in Canada more energy efficient.<\/p>\n

FortisBC for example lists about a dozen rebates from $200 for kitchen appliances up to $35,000 for gas absorption heat pumps.<\/p>\n

The federal government offers 10-year interest free loans of up to $40,000 but a “pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation” needs to be done first. That can cost $1,000 or more.<\/p>\n

The City of Kelowna, to help homeowners navigate the myriad of home energy efficiency options, has put out a call for proposals for a Home Energy Coordinator who can design a pilot project to help 50 residents understand their retrofitting options.<\/p>\n

“The pilot program is meant to help homeowners navigate the complex home energy retrofit process by providing the free services of a home energy coordinator,” the city said in an email to iNFOnwes.ca. “Further aspects of the program will be determined in the coming months as a third party consultant is selected through the bidding process.”<\/p>\n

Other than that, the city cannot give any details on how the 50 homeowners will be selected to participate in the pilot project or even when it will start.<\/p>\n

Contractors have until Nov. 13 to submit their bids.<\/p>\n
