Lessons in Contemporary, Precision Clog Dancing

Today’s form of the clog dance is unlike anything imagined. Clogging is enjoyed now with double stainless steel taps at the toe and the heel of the shoe. The dancer takes low impact percussive steps that activate each tap to the beat of the music. Taps are not required of newcomers.A dancer first learns basic steps that are then assembled into choreographed routines. Each step is called out by a clogging leader, so everyone moves to the rhythm in unison. The music is wide and varied and certainly not limited to traditional bluegrass.No partner is required. The clogger primarily moves as a solo dancer although a camaraderie on the dance floor makes it a very social recreation. The activity is open to all ages although children should be accompanied by an adult. It’s very economical in terms of cost.The newcomer is welcome in casual attire, should wear a well-fitted flat shoe with a firm back and needs to bring water.There is no pre-registration for these sessions. Simply drop in just prior to 6 pm Monday. Allow for one hour.The February 3 opening session is discounted to $5.00 to try the activity. The fee will be $10 from February 10.The fun will continue weekly at the same time and place.
