Leila Neverland

Persian-Jewish artist and mother of two Leila Neverland is in preparation for her biggest project yet: a 10-song art rock album hand-written and arranged for horns, strings, percussion, piano, and her tremendous vocals.
This undeniable West Coast female composer will perform her newest music as a live album recording experience at the Rotary Centre for the Arts’ Mary Irwin Theatre this Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at 7:30pm.
“It all started just over a year ago when I asked my drummer friend if he could help me count,” she said. “I’d always just written from the heart but all this time away from live concerts that we artists received during the pandemic, made me feel like I had to elevate my art and offer something more expansive.”

Leila is a staple in the local Okanagan artistic community and beyond. Other than a lengthy roster of live performances throughout British Columbia and into Alberta, she contributed to Kelowna’s Culture Plan 2020-2025 artist panel, created the project proposal for Festival Kelowna’s Pianos in the Park program back in 2015, and continues to offer innovative forest theatre workshops for children throughout the valley’s regional park system.
Her concert this weekend also marks the ten-year anniversary of her first original community-based theatre and concert production called Transcending Orbit that filled-house at the RCA back in 2012, when her eldest was only a year old.
Betwixt homeschooling and single mom life, this woman entrepreneur’s newest music is out of this world with harmonies and texture that combine musical genres for a cinematic musical experience. Get ready for a kind of artistic vesseling that only peaks its head out every century or so.
