Cyclist and SUV collide on Gordon

KELOWNA – A female cyclist was taken to hospital Tuesday after she and an SUV collided at the intersection of Casorso and Gordon.

The accident happened at around 11:45 a.m. when the cyclist was crossing Gordon from Casorso.

Const. Brad Smith says northbound traffic had the green light and early witness reports indicate the cyclist was attempting to cross on a red light.

“South and northbound traffic appeared to have the green light,” he says. “If that was the case then they would have had right of way but that remains to be confirmed."

The driver of the SUV had a small child in a car seat. Neither were injured but the cyclist was taken to hospital with minor injuries, says Smith.

It has not been confirmed that the cyclist was wearing a helmet, but no safety gear was present at the scene.

This is the second collision on Casorso Rd. today, as a pedestrian was hit on a crosswalk just before 9 a.m.
