A top bureaucrat for the Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is suing for wrongful termination.
The municipality’s former corporate officer claims she received a letter on Sept. 11 in which she was fired after seven years in the role, according to a claim in BC Supreme Court.
Before taking the corporate officer job, Nicole Jonsson worked in other local positions since Sun Peaks was incorporated more than a decade ago.
It’s not clear what led to her firing nor whether she was paid severance, but Jonsson’s employment agreement stipulated she would be paid two months’ salary if fired without notice with an additional two weeks’ pay for every year on the job.
According to the municipality’s most recent financial documents, Jonsson was the fourth-highest paid employee, paid $115,471 in 2024.
The municipality hasn’t responded in court and Jonsson’s claims haven’t been proven.
