The end of the wildfire season is just around the corner. With some extreme wildfire seasons in recent memory this year might seem relatively calm, at least in Kamloops and the Okanagan. We got some numbers for the year so far to help put the wildfire season into perspective.

Here are the numbers:

  • 1,242: Wildfires started in B.C. since April 1.
  • 841,488: Hectares burned by wildfires in B.C. since April 1.
  • 1,099: Wildfires have been extinguished by amazing firefighters.
  • 57: Per cent of this year’s fires were caused by lightning, which is close to the 10-year average.
  • 40: Per cent of wildfire were human caused, which is close to the 10-year average.
  • 3: Per cent of wildfire causes haven’t been determined yet.
  • 2: Wildfires near West Kelowna started on the same day because of fireworks the night before.
  • 400: Properties were evacuated in Peachland during the Drought Hill fire in July.
  • 246: Wildfires were in the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes the Okanagan, in 2025.
  • 35: Per cent of the normal rainfall came down in Kelowna in August at just 11.5 millimetres.
  • 1,527: Is the 10-year average for wildfires in B.C.
  • 407,373: Is the 10-year average for hectares burned by wildfires in B.C.
  • 316,900,000: Dollars is the 10-year average for the total cost of fighting wildfires in B.C.
