Police watchdog called in after man injured during Victoria arrest

VICTORIA — British Columbia’s police watchdog has been called in after a man was injured during an arrest in Victoria.

A statement from the Independent Investigations Office says the Victoria Police Department told them officers responded to a 911 call about a man with a weapon Friday afternoon.

The statement says police, including members of the Emergency Response Team, arrived and located the man in possession of what appeared to be a weapon.

It says that while attempting to arrest the man police used “a method of less-lethal force” to take him into custody.

The statement says the man suffered an injury while being arrested and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Independent Investigations Office says it’s looking for witnesses to what happened.
