Warmest weather since 1945 recorded in Kelowna
KELOWNA – A temperature record that has stood since 1945 was broken in Kelowna on Monday.
According to Environment Canada, gusty winds brought mild air into the southern interior of B.C. resulting in daily maximum temperature records being broken across the Okanagan.
In Kelowna, the previous record of 9.4 C was shattered when the daytime high hit a scorching (for January) temperature of 13.2 C.
Records were also broken in Vernon and Osoyoos, with residents of the South Okanagan enjoying the highest temperatures recorded in Canada.
Downtown Kelowna’s Stuart Park Arena was closed Monday when the soaring temp turned the ice rink into a large, wet puddle.
Today’s weather forecast calls for a chance of rain or possibly snow flurries with a high of 7 C and a relatively warm low of 1 C.
