One man dead, one in custody following alleged assault in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. – The RCMP say one man is in custody following an alleged fatal assault in Surrey, B.C.

Mounties say in a media release that BC Ambulance paramedics called for support when they found a 47-year-old man in medical distress following an alleged assault early Saturday morning.

Despite efforts to save the man, he died at the scene.

The RCMP says one man has been arrested and they believe the two men knew one another.

They say there is no indication of gang involvement and they do not believe there is any ongoing concern for public safety.

The RCMP's serious crimes unit will work with the province's Integrated Homicide Investigations Team to continue the investigation.
