Pittsburgh honours former Steelers coach by dubbing February ‘Dick LeBeau Month’

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Pittsburgh is honouring a former Steelers defensive co-ordinator by dubbing February “Dick LeBeau Month.”

The 77-year-old coach resigned last month and was honoured at Tuesday’s meeting of the Pittsburgh city council. He was surrounded by friends, relatives and several former players, including Brett Keisel and James Harrison.

LeBeau was co-ordinator on two Super Bowl-winning teams. He spent 56 years in the NFL, including 14 as a defensive back for the Detroit Lions and two coaching stints with the Steelers, sandwiched around a head coaching job with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Of the honour, LeBeau says: “Quite honestly, it’s more than I deserve.”

Keisel says players respected LeBeau mostly “for what he did for us off the field.” Heh says: “I will forever be grateful for his influence in my life.”
