Hospital officials: Doctor shot in Boston hospital dies; was cardiac surgeon

BOSTON – A doctor shot inside a leading Boston hospital by a gunman who then killed himself has died.

Officials at Brigham and Women’s Hospital said in a statement late Tuesday that Dr. Michael J. Davidson, director of Endovascular Cardiac Surgery at the hospital, died from his gunshot wounds.

Authorities say 55-year-old Stephen Pasceri entered the hospital sometime before 11 a.m. Tuesday and specifically requested the doctor. They say Pasceri, of Millbury, shot the doctor twice just outside an examination room and then turned the gun on himself. Pasceri’s body was found in an exam room with the weapon.

Police say Pasceri wasn’t a patient of the doctor’s and they didn’t specify a motive for the shootings.

Hospital officials described Davidson as “a wonderful and inspiring cardiac surgeon.”
