Longtime choreographer-judge Mary Murphy leaving ‘So You Think You Can Dance’

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Veteran “So You Think You Can Dance” cast member Mary Murphy is leaving.

The Fox network on Monday confirmed Murphy’s departure from the dance competition show, which she joined as a choreographer and guest judge with its first season in 2005. She later was named a permanent judge.

The network describes Murphy as “a huge part” of the show.

Murphy is a former U.S. champion ballroom dancer. She says she is “saddened” to be released from her contract but is “grateful and proud” to have been part of the show.

No reason has been given for Murphy’s exit.

“So You Think You Can Dance” returns for its 12th season this summer.

The show has a panel of three judges, including Nigel Lythgoe. Judges for the upcoming season haven’t been announced.
