CALGARY – Matt Nichols will start at quarterback for the Edmonton Eskimos against the Calgary Stampeders on Friday.
The Eskimos announced on their website today they are going with their third-stringer because of injuries to Steven Jyles and Kerry Joseph.
Nichols has thrown one touchdown pass in his career, which came Sept. 7 in a 20-18 loss to the Stampeders.
The 25-year-old from Redding, Calif., signed with Edmonton in 2010.
The Eskimos have lost four in a row and rank last in the CFL’s West Division at 5-7.
