The former partner of a notorious gangster to be sentenced on cocaine conspiracy

VANCOUVER – The partner of a high-profile figure from B.C.’s gang world has apologized for his role in a cocaine conspiracy as he asks a judge to spare him jail time.

Wayne Scott, a 56-year-old Abbotsford resident, was convicted earlier this year along with reputed gang leader Jarrod Bacon of conspiring to import 100 kilograms of Mexican cocaine into Canada.

Bacon, one of three brothers who became notorious for their links to a bloody gang war in the Vancouver area several years ago, was in a relationship with Scott’s daughter and fathered her child.

Bacon was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in the conspiracy, and now the Crown is asking that Scott be sentenced to between eight and 10 years.

Scott addressed the court after his lawyer asked for a conditional sentencing, telling the judge he is sorry for what he describes as his poor decisions and stupidity.

But Scott echoed his lawyer’s argument that he was caught up with the wrong people, saying while he made wrong decisions, he was also used by others.
