Canadian border guards report seizing $100M in drugs from April to June
OTTAWA – The Canadian Border Services Agency says its officers seized more than $100 million worth of illegal drugs in just three months last spring.
In the first quarter of its fiscal year, April to June, the agency seized more than $60 million worth of cocaine and 50,000 bundles of khat it says were worth nearly $2 million.
In addition, the agency kicked out more than 3,800 inadmissible persons, including 306 who were deemed inadmissible because of criminality, national security reasons or participation in war crimes and crimes against humanity.
As well, over 14,000 people were simply denied entry to Canada.
The agency says nearly 25 million travellers were processed through the country’s various ports of entry.
Border guards cleared more than nine million cars, trucks and buses during the three-month period.
