TORONTO – The City of Toronto announced several measures Thursday in response to a spike in suspected opioid-related deaths in recent weeks. Here is a list of what the city says it is doing:
— Speeding up the opening of supervised injection sites
— Asking Toronto police to consider the targeted distribution of opioid overdose antidote naloxone to some officers
— Exploring emergency bulk purchasing of naloxone for quicker distribution to all necessary personnel
— Committing to better data sharing about overdose information and tracking whether naloxone has been used at calls where paramedics have been dispatched
— Increasing public education
