World Series television rating down from 2013 but up from Giants’ last appearance in 2012

SAN FRANCISCO – The World Series is averaging a 7.5 rating through three games, down 7 per cent from last year but up 4 per cent over San Francisco’s last appearance in 2012.

Kansas City’s 3-2 win in Game 3 received a 7.2 rating, 13 share and 12.1 million viewers, according to fast national ratings from Nielsen Media Research announced by Fox on Saturday. That was down slightly from the 7.4 for St. Louis’ 5-4 win over Boston in Game 3 last year, but up from the 6.1 for the Giants’ 2-0 victory over Detroit in 2012, which matched the record low for any Series game. The third game in both 2012 and ’13 was on a Saturday.

Friday night’s game began with 8.4 million viewers and peaked at 14.4 million during the late stages, from 11-11:25 p.m. EDT.

Fox said its prime-time rating of 7.0 was its best on a Friday since January 2013 and the best of any network since last February.

The first three games averaged an 8.1 rating last year and a 7.2 in 2012.

An additional 228,000 viewers watched Game 3 on Fox Deportes, up 42 per cent from 161,000 last year. Fox Deportes is averaging 260,000 viewers for this year’s Series.
