Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,009.79 down 0.11point):

Score Media Inc. (TSX:SCR). Television and digital media. Down a penny, or 0.58 per cent, at $1.71 on 16,017,149 shares. Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI.B) offered to buy the sports broadcaster for $167 million earlier this week.

Baja Mining Corp.(TSX:BAJ). Miner. Up 5.5 cents, or 47.83 per cent, at 17 cents on 10,894,902 shares. A Korean consortium now owns a majority interest in Minera y Metalurgica del Boleo after they invested US$90 million in Baja’s subsidiary Tuesday.

Torex Gold Resources Inc. (TSX:TXG). Miner. Down two cents, or 1.09 per cent, at $1.81 on 4,822,560 shares. The gold sector was one of the big decliners, closing at 305.71 points, down 3.13 points or 1.01 per cent. The December contract for the bullion fell US$6.70 to $1,663 per ounce at the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Eastern Platinum Ltd. (TSXV:ELR). Miner. Up half a cent, or 2.70 per cent, at 19 cents on 4,514,340 shares. The metals and mining sector was the leading decliner, down 8.56 points or 1.02 per cent, at 834.70 points.

Talison Lithium Ltd. (TSX:TLH). Miner. Unchanged at $6.47 on 4,432,282 shares. Rockwood Holdings Inc. announced last week that it will acquire the Australia-based company for $724 million.

Bonavista Energy Corp. (TSX:BNP). Oil and gas. Down 47 cents, or 2.76 per cent, at $16.56 on 3,542,961 shares. The energy sector declined 1.82 points, or 0.71 per cent, to 254.37 points, as price of the October oil contract fell 84 cents USto $95.49 on the Nymex.

TSX Venture Exchange (1,229.16 down 12.72 points):

GoldQuest Mining Corp. (TSXV:GQC). Mineral exploration development. Down 10 cents, or 6.29 per cent, at $1.49 on 6,714,270 shares.

Zodiac Exploration Inc. (TSXV:ZEX). Oil and gas services. Unchanged at five cents on 5,682,054 shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Gildan Activewear Inc. (TSX:GIL). Apparel. Down $1.01, or 3.22 per cent, at $30.40 on 1,094,229 shares. Chief executive Glenn Chamandy could earn more than $80 million after he sells up to 28 per cent of his shares of the company. Chamandy remains one of its largest shareholders with a 5.7 per cent stake once the 2.75 million shares are sold.

Manulife Financial (TSX:MFC). Insurer. Up 24 cents, or 2.18 per cent, at $11.27 on 3,037,658 shares. The Toronto-based company will buy independent financial planning firm Wellington West Financial Services Inc. from the National Bank Financial Group (TSX:NA) for an undisclosed amount. The deal will add $900 million in assets and 39 financial advisers to Manulife Securities (TSX:MFC).

Scotiabank (TSX:BNS). Bank. Up 70 cents, or 1.32 per cent, at $53.60 on 2,201,997 shares. The bank will buy ING Bank of Canada for $3.13 billion in cash from parent company ING Groep NV. Canada’s most international bank announced the deal after markets closed.
