Penalties take their toll on Kelowna Chiefs

KELOWNA – Rutland’s very own Kelowna Chiefs were defeated on the road Saturday night.

The team made a stop in Chase where they suffered a 4 – 3 overtime loss at the hands of the Heat.

Kelowna would take the early lead just 30 seconds into the first thanks to Nick Josephs, line mate Nicholas Kovacik added the assist.

Penalties would be the downfall in the second period with Chase scoring three goals, all on the powerplay.  The points came from Connor Venne and then two by Buddy Summers.

The Chiefs kept the pressure on during the third and Kovacik and Jagger Bowles would each net a goal to tie up the game 3 – 3, forcing the overtime period.

In overtime Venne with the Heat would score at 1:45 for the 4 – 3 victory.

The Kelowna Chiefs will continue their road swing next Friday with a game in Spokane followed by a game in Nelson.
