Alberta Mountie receives conditional discharge for shooting driver
EDMONTON – A judge has given an Alberta Mountie a one-year conditional discharge for shooting a motorist in 2011.
Const. Jason Clace pleaded guilty earlier this year to assault with a weapon and careless use of a firearm.
A previous investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team recommended the charges.
It found the officer had stopped a vehicle in the town of Boyle, north of Edmonton, and, when the vehicle started moving again, shot the driver in the shoulder.
The 22-year-old man survived and was treated in hospital.
An RCMP spokesman says Clace was temporarily suspended from his job but returned to frontline policing in February following an assessment.
As part of his court sentence, he must also complete 150 hours of community service.
