SAUGUS, Mass. – A Massachusetts business that calls itself one of America’s oldest barbershop is marking a major milestone.
George’s Barber Shop in Saugus is celebrating the first major renovation and expansion in its 115-year history with a grand reopening Monday.
The business was founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant George Moriello. It’s run now by his great-grandson, Mike Moriello.
He tells The Daily Item of Lynn (http://bit.ly/2vtScvD ) there are older barbershops in the country, but none have been owned by the same family and been at the same location longer than George’s.
The renovated shop will feature twice as many seats and double the floor space. The staff will expand from five to eight master barbers.
Moriello says the shop’s secret is “a blend of old-school style with a modern flair.”
