Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to reopen border crossing
QUETTA, Pakistan – Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to reopen a border crossing that was closed for almost two weeks after Afghan protesters burned the Pakistani flag at a border rally.
The two neighbours have tense relations over several issues, including Afghan accusations that Pakistan harbours the Taliban.
Pakistan’s paramilitary Frontier Corps says the key Chaman border crossing will reopen on Thursday, 13 days after it was closed following the protests.
It’s one of the two border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan and thousands of people use it daily to visit relatives on the other side of the boundary. It’s also used for trade.
A statement from the Frontier Corps says the decision came during successful talks on Wednesday between the two sides in Chaman, a border town in Pakistan’s southwestern Baluchistan province.
