The 12-team tournament runs Aug. 1-17 in France.

Canada has been placed in Pool A with Spain, Samoa and England.

The Canadian women placed a disappointing sixth at the 2010 World Cup. Their best result is fourth, at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 tournaments.

New Zealand has won the last four women’s World Cups, beating England in the final of the last three tournaments.
