TORONTO – The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed defenceman Tim Gleason on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying him out.
Gleason will remain on the Leafs’ salary cap for the next four seasons because this is an ordinary-course buyout.
Toronto already used its two compliance buyouts on Mike Komisarek and Mikhail Grabovski.
According to CapGeek, Gleason will cost US$833,333 against the cap next season, $1,833,333 in 2015-16 and then $1,333,333 in 2016-17.
The Leafs traded for Gleason on Jan. 1, sending John-Michael Liles to the Carolina Hurricanes.
