After 3-year delay, jury selection to start in Drew Peterson’s trial in wife’s 2004 death

CHICAGO – Jury selection is to begin in the long-delayed murder trial of former suburban Chicago police officer Drew Peterson.

Peterson is charged with killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in 2004. He’s also a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Jurors are likely to hear witnesses describe statements Savio and Stacy Peterson allegedly made about how Peterson threatened them. Such hearsay is usually barred. But an appellate court ruled jurors can hear them.

Would-be jurors are to be vetted by a judge starting Monday.

A 200-person jury pool has been waiting three years for a trial to get under way. Among the questions potential jurors may be asked is whether they saw a TV movie starring Rob Lowe as the ex-Bolingbrook police sergeant Peterson.
