Ex-Colorado sheriff could face prison for violating probation in meth-for-sex case
DENVER – A former Colorado sheriff convicted in a meth-for-sex case could face prison time for violating his probation.
A judge on Thursday will sentence 71-year-old Patrick Sullivan for leaving the state without permission this year. Court records show he also failed drug and alcohol tests repeatedly. Sullivan was sentenced in 2012 to about a month in the jail once named for him. He was placed on two years’ probation after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine and soliciting prostitution.
Authorities say he also violated probation by testing positive for meth use several times between September and May and for alcohol four times between April 2012 and August 2013.
Those who worked with Sullivan say they were stunned by the case and saddened by the recent violations. Sullivan was a celebrated sheriff who was known as an anti-drug crusader.
