3 UK schools reject government claims they did not protect students from Islamic extremism

LONDON – Three schools in the central English city of Birmingham have rejected government claims that they have failed to protect students from Islamic extremism.

The Park View Educational Trust said Monday a government report has concluded three of its schools have failed to protect students from extremism.

Vice-chairman David Hughes rejected the report, saying that the schools “do not tolerate or promote extremism.”

He said a legal challenge to the government finding will follow.

Hughes spoke ahead of the release of a government report into allegations that extremist Muslim groups are trying to take over some Birmingham schools.

The office for education standards report into 21 schools is expected to be published Monday afternoon. Press reports say five schools will be found to have failed to shield students from extremist views.
