Ontario Lt.-Gov. David Onley films cameo for CBC drama ‘Murdoch Mysteries’

TORONTO – The CBC-TV drama “Murdoch Mysteries” has yet another political cameo in store for its viewers.

The historical detective series was filming at the Ontario legislature on Friday.

The episode features a cameo by Ontario Lt.-Gov. David Onley, who plays the eighth Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Sir Oliver Mowat.

Last summer, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a cameo appearance as a clueless cop.

In Onley’s episode, Det. William Murdoch is investigating the mysterious death of a member of the Ontario legislature.

Onley says he’s excited to be part of the episode since he’s a big fan of the show.

He says Queen’s Park is the perfect location to film because it is a historical site.

The filming marks Onley’s first acting gig in a very long time.

“I haven’t acted since high school days,” he said on Friday. “Now I don’t have to have them put any grey in my hair. It’s there naturally.”

The show, which previously aired on Citytv, will air the fifth season on CBC-TV in September. Onley’s episode is not expected to air until Season 6 debuts in January 2013.

“Murdoch Mysteries” stars Yannick Bisson as a detective who solves crimes in Toronto with forensic techniques that were radical at the turn-of-the-century.
